Running a test
How do I run the standard beep test?
Mark out 20 m, or the distance you have set, with a cone or line at each end. Pick 20 m beep test on the start screen and tap Start test. Run to the far line before each beep. After a short countdown, the beeps speed up every level.
When does the test end?
Tap Missed when you do not reach the line in time. The first miss is a warning, and a second miss in a row ends the test. Your last completed level and shuttle are your result. You can also hold Finish at any time.
Can I use a different distance?
Yes, for the beep tests: set the shuttle distance on the start screen. BeepDash keeps the running speeds of the chosen test and times the beeps for your distance. The Yo-Yo test stays at its standard 20 m.
Will it keep beeping with the screen off?
Yes. On Android an ongoing notification shows your level while a test runs. Do not swipe BeepDash away from your recent apps during a test, as that ends it.
The beeps sound late through my Bluetooth speaker.
Bluetooth adds a delay. Open Settings, then Calibration, then Audio delay, tap Test, and raise the delay until the beep lands on the flash.
Results
How is VO2 max worked out?
For the standard 20 m beep test, from the speed of your last completed level, using the published Léger equations. For under 18s it uses the children's version, which also takes the age in your profile. For the Yo-Yo IR1 it comes from the total distance you covered. Other distances and your own tests show a rougher estimate, marked as such. Either way it is an estimate, not a lab measurement.
Where are my results stored?
On your phone. Export them any time with Settings, Data, Export results (CSV). Uninstalling BeepDash removes them.
VIP
How do I buy or restore VIP?
BeepDash VIP is a one off purchase through the App Store or Google Play, with nothing to renew or cancel. After reinstalling, or on a new phone signed in to the same store account, open Settings and tap Restore purchase.
